Students approach Mahatma Gandhi University for its ?grace?

With their final sixth semester exams just a month away, many students in colleges affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University are anxious as they have not yet received the grace marks due to them for excelling in youth festivals, sports, the National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme.

The students who have not received the first and second semester mark lists containing the grace marks are afraid they will not be able to apply for PG courses without them.

When contacted, Mahatma Gandhi University Pro-vice-chancellor Dr Rajan Varghese said the mark lists for all first and second semester students had been dispatched but the university was lagging behind with the lists for the third and fourth semesters.

The delay was mainly with marks related to the National Service Scheme, according to him.

“We, however, hope to complete the process on schedule by June . Hardly any grace marks have been held up for fifth and sixth semester students,” he said, adding that he was unaware of any complaints regarding the first and second semesters.

Altogether two lakh students study under the semester system in colleges under the university. Around 33,000 students appear for exams in one semester alone and 60 per cent of them claim grace marks.
“It’s a time-consuming process, but we have despatched a majority of the marks,” said Controller of Examinations Thomas J. Mambra when contacted.
