Chief Minister N Rangasamy said the government proposed to start a university exclusively for women in the Union Territory.

Distributing degree certificates to 620 women graduates at Bharathidasan Government College for Women at its annual convocation here, he claimed Puducherry had been implementing several pilot projects in education and that the HRD Ministry has appreciated the government move to ensure the Union Territory emerged as an education hub.

The proposal for the autonomous university had been forwarded to the centre for clearance, he said.
