Common engineering test discussed in crucial IIT board meeting

Updated on: Monday, February 20, 2012

The IITs Joint Admission Board held a meeting ahead of the state education ministers' conference here next week where a final call is likely to be taken on holding a pan-India test for admission to UG engineering and science studies.

The meeting attended by IIT heads is believed to have discussed the common test and the modalities, which has already been approved by the IIT council earlier.

The entrance test, Indian Science - Engineering Eligibility Test (ISEET), will be conducted in April or May next year, HRD Ministry officials said.

ISEET will have two parts ISEET main and ISEET Advance, and each examination of three-hour duration will be held on a single day, the officials said.

For the score card, the Ministry has proposed 60 per cent weightage to the test and not less than 40 per cent to Class XII examination.

However, the Ministry has provided some flexibility to the states in deciding the weightages within the prescribed limit.

The issue will be placed before the state education ministers conference on February 22.

The ISEET 2013 is proposed to be conducted by CBSE with academic responsibility being entrusted to an 'academic group' under the guidance of IIT-Kanpur, Director.

The modalities of transfer of data from school boards to ISEET organisation will be worked out, the officials said.

The schedule of dates for declaration of results of ISEET and school boards also needs to be coordinated so that a composite score card could be prepared in the given timeframe, the officials said.
