Three-day school teachers meet begins on Thursday

Blaming the United Democratic Front gtovernment for continuing its policy of destructing public education system, Kerala School Teachers Association president K N Sukumaran said the government was giving facilities to corporates to start schools, which untimately sabotage the education system.

The state has the facility to provide classrooms and teachers for 52 lakh students, out of which only 40 lakh students were studying. Over 3000 schools were uneconomic, Sukumaran told reporters here.

Out of 11798 schools in Kerala, 65 per cent of the schools were in aided sector while only one third in government sector.  At present students prefer to study in government run schools, the association general secretary M Shajahan said.

He said though the steps for transfer of teachers in higher secondary through online was completed the list was not yet published.  Altogether 324 persons were transferred by violating the guidelines.

The association secretary T S N Elayathu said principals in 88 higher secondary schools were not appointed this year. The three-day state conference of the association will begin on february 16 at M M hall here. Oppose corporates and help public education is the slogan of the conference, concluding on Saturday.
