Terming as unfortunate the killing of a teacher by a student in a Chennai school, Minister of state for HRD Dr D Purandeswari asked state governments to be proactive in implementing the National Curriculum Framework on guidelines for school education.

"It is a very, very unfortunate incident. Our heart goes out to the family of the teacher. Governments should be proactive in implementing the National Curriculum framework,"  she said while speaking at the Editors conference here.

Purandeswari suggested both parents and teachers undertake joint responsibility to continuously monitor students' growth. "I think there has to be a lot of interaction between teachers and parents", she said.

A 15-year-old boy stabbed his teacher to death inside the classroom of St Mary's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai on Thursday, apparently upset over her remarks against students who did not fare well in studies.
