HRD ministry rules out national board for Class XII

New Delhi: The government said that 33 state boards will continue to conduct Class 12 examinations and had no plans to set up a single national-level board at the moment.

Informing Lok Sabha during Question Hour, the Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) D. Purandeswari said the government has no plans to set up a national or universal board instead of the existing boards for Class 12 examinations.

As there exist vast difference in quality of examination in state boards, Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for HRD, had earlier clarified that the proposal to have one-board-one exam system was not in the agenda of the ministry as introduction of uniform examination may not be possible.

'Unless the quality is improved, the state boards cannot affiliate to a uniform system. I did not say there would be one-board-one exam system,' Kapil Sibal had said.

Ms Purandareswari also said that the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is in the process of finalising the revised National Curriculum Framework to improve the quality of B.Ed and other teacher training programmes.
