A day of intense competition, boundless energy

The secluded complex of Teegala Krishna Reddy Group of educational institutions in Meerpet assumed a cosmopolitan aura on Saturday when young people of all ages, cultures, and choices from across the city and other parts of the State gathered under the single banner of The Hindu ‘Inter-Collegiate E-Plus Club Challenge 2012'.

Going by the numbers, the 130-year-old media giant's invitation was well received by the modern era teens and 20s. Over 1,200 students from about 40 colleges participated in various events of the day and brought the premises alive with youthful zest and energy.

The day began with preliminary rounds in all events, namely, Quiz, Paper Presentation, Elocution, Group Discussion and Creative Activity. Two teams of three students each from each college participated in the elimination rounds of Quiz and Paper Presentation, which sifted eligible participants for final round in the post-lunch session.

Elocution and Group Discussion had individual participation, nevertheless with points added to respective colleges on the whole.

The event was conducted by The Hindu, TKR Group of Institutions, Ikon Hospitals and Conduira Educational & Training Services Pvt. Ltd.

More than the events themselves, it was the boundless enthusiasm displayed by the participants that made the day a resounding success. Palpable across all the events was the self-assurance with which the students held the stage, debated and strove to drive their point home.

Flinching before neither the jury nor the fellow competitors who were hell-bent to outdo them, almost all the participants displayed remarkable courage and tenacity that baffled even the seasoned management professionals.
Innovative

Innovative core of the students emerged in its entire splendour as could be seen from the ideas that gushed forth in the Creative Activities event.

Music and dance kept the legs busy tapping, while humorous skits with ingenious ideas of fun evoked many a laughter.

A student's description of how the socially conscious group from his college transformed many lives and situations through a project that cost no more than Rs. 2,000 per month induced wide applause, while a skit by another team with deliberately embedded anachronisms had the audience in splits.

Participants were no less enthused by the proceedings as well as the hospitality. “We brought a power point presentation on the topic ‘Ethics', which we presented to the best of our abilities. I loved participating in the event, and wished I could also show the short-film we made on social change,” said J. Shailaja, an MBA student from Avanthi Group.

Three more students -- N. Venkatram Reddy, K. Suryaprakash, and K. Soujanya -- from Nalla Malla Reddy College of Engineering were all enthused about the tips they received from the jury for a better presentation.
Winners

At the end of the event, Vasavi College of Engineering was declared the overall winner for Hyderabad region, while Bhavan's Vivekananda Degree College stood the first runner-up.

Mufakkamjah College of Engineering and Technology bagged the prize for being the second runner-up.

Minister for Civil Supplies D. Sridhar Babu gave away the prizes.
