Atlas of Tamil Nadu released

A Micro watershed Atlas of Tamil Nadu was released by State Agriculture Minister S Damodaran.
  
Besides being a useful document for planning and development of water resources and implementing soil conservation measures,it will also be useful for scientists to identify geographic unit for the development and testing of location specific technologies.
 
Damodaran asked the scientists and development departments to make use of the atlas as the framework for their planning and implementation of various development programmes.
  
Dr S N Das, Chief Soil survey officer and head of Soil and Land Use Survey of India, Ministry of Agriculture, Delhi, explained the planning and implementation of watershed programme and the concept of national coding system and the utility of watershed information.
  
Watershed is a natural hydrology entity that covers specific areas of land surface where run-off water flows through a defined drain, channel, stream or river through a particular point, Murugesa Bhoopathi, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, said.
