The Central government will take necessary steps to ensure setting up of an IIIT in Tripura within the 12th Five Year Plan period, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

"I told (Union HRD Minister) Kapil Sibal that we want any one out of the elite Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) or Indian Institute of Management (IIM). He replied to me the former would be more suitable for a state like ours. So, I requested him to make arrangements from his end," he told.

Sibal came here on January 11 to receive Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was on a two-day trip and was conferred a honorary Doctorate of Literature by Tripura Central University.
