State-level young scientists' meet at Madurai

Madurai: Young scientists across the state who work on different research projects in diverse fields will gather at an exclusive meet organised for them on August 7 and 8.

Funding them for doing projects, the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, has asked them to present their projects before a panel of experts.
During the two-day meet, 195 students from various colleges in the State would present and explain their findings, according to S. Vincent, Member-Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology.

In an attempt to promote research habit among the younger generation, the council has introduced 'Tamil Nadu Students’ Project Scheme Presentation' and provided Rs. 5,000 to purchase the materials required for doing the project.

To be held at K.L.N. Engineering College, the council has asked the local authorities to mobilise school / college children to see the exhibits at the venue.

Postgraduate students of arts and science colleges, undergraduate medical students and engineering college students were selected to undertake project work.

'The Council had received about 3,400 applications seeking funding support of which 195 students were selected,' Dr. Vincent told.

The projects undertaken in areas like environment, engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, biotechnology, biology, agriculture and medicine.

Students who submitted their projects would interact with the experts in respective fields after which citations will be presented for the best projects to the first three students in each category.
