Do not exploit parents: CBSE to schools

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has warned all its schools not to exploit parents by opening bookshops or uniform centres that sell branded accessories, shoes and other products at inflated costs.

CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi in a circular to heads of all schools said that giving room for such shops would lead to discrimination among children.

“No discrimination should be made among children or their parents. No school should under the guise of enforcing discipline mistreat any student or parent,” he said.

Mr Joshi urged schools heads to constantly interact with teachers and discuss their changed role since the introduction of continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE).

He also instructed them to set aside at least two periods in a fortnight for participation of students in health and wellness, eco, science and dramatics clubs.

The Board has meanwhile increased the number of mentors guiding schools to 3,000 and has decided to institutionalise mentor awards from this academic session onwards.

Also, in view of the demand by stakeholders for frequent two-way communication with the Board, Mr Joshi said it had been decided to establish a call centre at the board’s office which would become operational from February 15.
