BJYM activists hold protest demonstration on university issue

Jammu: Activists of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) today held protest demonstration and burnt effigy of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here demanding setting up of a central university in Samba area here.

About 70-80 slogan-shouting activists of BJYM, led by its president Pawan Khajuria, held demonstration near exhibition ground for about an hour.

Addressing the activists, Khajuria said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during a convocation in Jammu University last year had announced setting up of Central University in Jammu and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Kashmir.

The authorities had already earmarked over 5 acres of land in Raya village of Samba district for the purpose, he said and alleged that the Chief Minister was now misleading the people of the state that the locations for the Central University and IIM have not been identified as yet.

'We demand that the Central University be located in Samba district of Jammu division and IIM in Kashmir. In case, the state government demands one more Central University to be set up in Kashmir, then another IIM should be established in Jammu division
