Bihar seeks Rs 7,500 crore for universal education

Bihar today urged the Centre to release Rs 7,500 crore for implementation of the universal education scheme in the state in 2011-12.
 
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said it was a matter of concern that the Centre has released only Rs 1,145 crore as its 65 per cent contribution towards implementation of the universal education scheme in Bihar in the present fiscal year.
 
There were indications that Rs 1,000 crore will be made available soon to the state for the implementation of the scheme, he said and demanded release of the state's entire share of Rs 7,500 crore.
