Having successfully commissioned the Border Security Force Intranet project for the central government, NIIT Technology said it will enhance its focus on state police departments and it has already won five deals in different states.

"When we had won this Rs 229 crore Intranet Prahari Project (BSF Intranet project), many expressed apprehension on our ability as a mid-size company to execute it. Now we will enhance focus on state police department projects. We have already won five CCTNS deals," NIIT President-Asia Pacific Arvind Mehrotra told reporters here.

The Intranet Prahari Project was inaugurated by Home Minister P Chidambaram.

Mehrotra said the company is working on the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) of Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.

"These projects have been announced by the respective state government and there are two more deals from different states which we will be announcing this quarter," Mehrotra said.

He added that the company will open offices in states where it wins e-governance projects from the state government.

"We have placed a dedicated team for BSF and CRPF Intranet projects. Similarly, we will be opening our offices in the states where we win projects to serve government departments there. We plan to hire 75 per cent of the workforce locally for these offices," Mehrotra said.

On BSF's Intranet Prahari project, Mehrotra said the company has set up 10 mini-data centres at various location, one main data centre and data recovery centres.

"After commissioning of this project, we have two years for warranty and an additional five years as annual maintenance contract(AMC)," Mehrotra said.

He added that the majority of the Rs 229 crore assigned for the project has been received by company and the pending amount will be given to it over different phases of the contract.

Without elaborating on further details, Mehrotra said that NIIT Technology will get approximately 20 per cent of the total project amount for AMC services.
