Rs 151 crore sanctioned for DD Upadhyay College building

Delhi Government sanctioned Rs 151 crore for construction of a permanent building of Deen Dayal Upadhyay College in Dwarka in West Delhi.

A cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit cleared the project which will be completed in 30 months. The campus will come up at 7.65 acre plot in Dwarka's Sector 3.

The college was established in 1990 and has been functioning in a school building at Karam Pura area since then. Currently about 2,000 students are studying in it.

"In view of the implementation of 27 per cent reservation for OBC students and subsequent addition of 54 per cent seats, it has become imperative to shift to a permanent location," said an official.

In a separate decision, the Cabinet also decided in principle to offer facilities to the Chief Whip of the main Opposition party in the Delhi Assembly on par with facilities given to Chief Whip of ruling party.

Officials said the cabinet approved the draft Salary and Allowances of the Chief Whip in the Legislative Assembly (Amendment) Bill, 2011 which will be tabled in the winter session of Delhi Assembly.

If the bill is passed, current whip of BJP Sahib Singh Chouhan will get more facilities from the government.

The government also approved the Delhi Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2011. The amendment is being brought to enhance the voting rights of the government nominees in the Delhi Cooperative Housing Finance Corporation Ltd.
