Mumbai: Around 45,000 students in Mumbai have not got admission till yet. The deadline for the admission has been extended by the education department after knowing the huge number of students who had not secured admission.

Out of the total 1,23,802 students allotted admission in the first list only 76,527 students had taken admission by the Tuesday evening.

"Several students took admission in minority and management quota. This could be one of the reasons they failed to take admission in the first merit list," said V K Wankhede, deputy director of school education.

The education department has gone an extra mile to help out students secure a seat in FYJC.

"Circulars had been sent to all colleges asking them to give a provisional admission to students who have got wrong preferences of stream," said Madhavi Pethe, the core committee member for online admissions.

Unaided colleges have been asked to get a token money of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 for provisional admissions. The fees will not be blocked if these students get a better seat in the second or third round.

According to the statistics provided by the education department, 2,022 students were rejected and 190 admissions were cancelled.

With the closing of the last day of admission in the first list, any students who has not secured will be out of the admission process.
