Advances in the field of genetics

Human genetics is the study of genetics as applied to humans. It is particularly concerned with genetic disease within medicine, i.e. medical genetics.

Human genetic refers to the controlled modification of the human genome. DNA provides the genetic blueprint for all living organisms and can influence an individuals' actions and abilities.

With the advent of DNA research and the ability to change gene expressions, it is now possible for scientists to be able to change human capacities, whether physical, cognitive, or emotional.

This is a discipline that is concerned with genetically determined resemblances and on the differences that exists among human beings.

Technological advances in the visualisation of human chromosomes have shown that abnormalities in the chromosome number or in the structure are surprisingly common and of many different kinds. It was also realised that they account for birth defects or mental impairment in many individuals as well as for numerous early spontaneous abortions.

The sequencing of the human genome has pushed human genetics into a whole new era of study, resulting in the generation of an explosive amount of information.

Application of genomic, proteomic, and bioinformatics technologies to the study of human genetics has made it possible for human genetic diseases to be studied on an unprecedented scale, both in silico and in the wet lab. Master in Science (M.Sc) in Human Genetics is being offered in Sri Ramachandra University in Chennai.
