Tiruvarur Govt Medical college likely from next year only

Tiruvarur: It is unlikely that Tiruvarur Govt Medical College will start functioning from this academic year, as the visit of committee from Medical Council of India pending and construction works still going on.

Although construction work of the hospital building has been finished, the construction works on the college buildings is underway.

According to official sources, the college would start functioning from next academic year only.

The Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi announced about the new college in the year 2007. It was expected that the college would start functioning from this year.

Dr. Ramakrishnan has been appointed as the dean of the Medical College.

Government allotted Rs. 100 crore for the college and initially released Rs. 45 crore for taking up construction of the buildings.

The entire works include 300 bed hospital (completed) outpatient ward, central laboratory, another 200 bed hospital, college and hostel buildings and lecturers quarters.
