Workshop on NMR Spectroscopy at TIFR

Updated on: Tuesday, December 20, 2011

In an endeavour to disseminate the advances in the basic research and applications of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) made in the recent years, a six-day workshop on “Recent Advances in NMR Spectroscopy” was held in the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Hyderabad, transit campus wherein internationally acclaimed scientists from all over the world participated.

The workshop, organised in association with the National Facility for High Field NMR dwelled on developing an in-depth overview of the current field status and on determining new directions and cutting edges wherein NMR will have maximal impact on, said KVR Chary, senior professor of NMR division, TIFR.

The workshop also generated cross-fertilization of innovative ideas. Several topics were covered in the workshop, dealing with the theoretical aspects and applications leading to bio-molecular structure determination, advances in imaging, study of metabolism in human systems, and applications to pharmaceutical industry. The workshop catered to a large number of research students, post-doctoral fellows and industry nominated scientists.

The TIFR that has acquired 209 acres of land in Hyderabad has set up its first research venture, TIFR Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences (TCIS) in a transit building in Narsingi. The institute will move to the campus once the buildings come up at the allotted site.
