IT Ministry to fund technical institute for workshops

The government will provide funds to technical institutes with a view to promote awareness and talent in electronic products design and manufacturing.

"We have plans to organise 232 workshops on Electronic System Design and Manufacturing over period of two years. DIT will give support of Rs 30,000 for each workshop to UGC-approved institutes for workshops," a Department of Information Technology(DIT) official told.
   
The official further said that added that for next two years, DIT has planned to organise 116 workshops in at least least four institute per year in each state. "The workshops will have two components, lecture and factory visit. After lecture, students will be taken for field visit in factory so that they can have exposure to production process and needs of industry," the official said.
   
The fund for this workshop is part of initially allocated Rs 18 crore for brand building exercise of government to promote country as destination for electronic product design and manufacturing. Under the workshop programme, DIT will connect institute with companies having facility to manufacture information and communication technology product in India.
   
"Our effort is to create link between industry and academia. We are looking for interest from both institutes and academia to participate in this programme," the official said.
   
The government has announced support of up to Rs 25,000 crore for setting up electronic chip manufacturing plant in the country and is in process of setting up of Rs 10,000 crore electronics fund to promote the sector.
