Interdisciplinary research imperative, says TN Governor

Comparative and inter-disciplinary research was imperative to translate scientific advances from one discipline or species to another,Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah said.

"Veterinary scientists have an onerous responsibility to protect human health and well-being by ensuring food security and safety, preventing and controlling emerging infectious zoonoses. (They also have the responsibility of) Protecting environments, ecosystems, assisting preparedness in bioterrorism and agroterrorism, advancing treatment and control for nonzoonotic diseases," he said.
 
In his Valedictory address at the World Veterinary Year celebrations of the Madras Veterinary College, he said "contributing to public health, engaging in medical research and research in veterinary science were pivotal to compete globally. Today comparative and interdisciplinary research is imperative to translating advances from one discipline or species to another for providing new  insights into human health problems,"  he said.
 
Research and development in scientific fields such as laboratory, animal medicine, pathology and toxicology were vital for attaining sustainable growth in veterinary science.
 
Earlier, he released new technologies developed by the scientists and distributed awards and certificates to staff and farmers.
