Youths with tattoos on their bodies will not be recruited in Army as it could be a cause of skin diseases, an army officer said.

"Instructions have been received that boys with tattoos anywhere on their bodies except hands will not be recruited (in the armed forces)," Deputy Director General Recruitment (Punjab and JK)," Brigadier Vinod Raizada told reporters here.

"It has been seen recently that boys are going for tattoos which can spread skin diseases," he said.

Several boys get rejected for having tattoos on their bodies, the Brigadier said adding "out of every 100 boys (who come for recruitment), 30 have body tattoos."

Most of the boys from Jammu, Samba and Kathua who had come for Army recruitment rally in Akhnoor border belt had body tattoos, he said.

Those youths having tattoos on hands would be sent for medical tests and recruited only if cleared, Brig Raizada said.
