Training in defence technology

Hindustan University has launched its advanced defence technology training. “ India needs a vibrant research and development capability, and the ability to transform the results of R&D into systems, equipment, components” said Major General Subroto Mitra, General Officer Commanding of the Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala area.

Inaugurating a conference on defence training organised by Hindustan University in Chennai, in association with Cranfield School of Defence and Security of the United Kingdom, General Mitra said “New product design and development is a crucial factor in the survival of a nation. This has to take into account the effect of continuous technology change and development as well as the changing preference of customers, in this case, the Armed Forces.”

The two-day conference was designed to help young technocrats learn directly from specialised academia in defence education as also defence industry and establishments.

Delivering the presidential address, the Chancellor of Hindustan University, Elizabeth Verghese said, “Trained technical manpower conversant with the state-of-the-art techniques is extremely rare and the young engineers have a huge opportunity.”

Ian Wallace, Head of School, Cranfield Defence & Security, Cranfield University; Ann Marie Frank, programme manager (CDS& International Projects), Cranfield University; Venkat V. S.; S. Sastry from the Defence Academy, Cranfield University, U.K.; K. Sarukesi, vice-chancellor, Hindustan University, and Prof. P. Tony Joseph, convenor of the conference, spoke.
