As reported by DC, big bucks returned to IIT-Madras campus on Friday, with US mobile applications developer Pocket Gems offering $1.37 lakh (approximately Rs 71.34 lakh) each to 3 students per year.

While two — Prateek Gaur, a B.Tech computer science (dual degree) student from Rajasthan, and Dinesh C.H., another a B.Tech (computer science) student from Andhra Pradesh — accepted the offer, Teja declined it in favour of Google, which will pay him $1.1 lakh (approximately Rs 57 lakh) a year.

Prateek said the selection process began at 6 pm on Thursday and continued till 4 am on Friday. Most questions in the three-round (45 minutes to an hour each) interview were on gaming business, he said.

“We were interviewed by company executives from the US via video conferencing. I was not aiming for big money but a company that would help me grow professionally and to which growth I would be able to contribute,” he said.

Prateek plans to return to India and start his own company in future.

Teja said: “Pocket Gems is a mobile applications company. I preferred Google as it provides more opportunities in distributed computing.”
