Special school students pass public exams

Krishnagiri: Sixty students who joined regular government higher secondary schools from special government run schools to abolish child labour have passed the SSLC and Plus Two exams this year, Krishnagiri Collector V K Shanmugam said today.

Of these, one girl had secured 473 marks out of 500 while another boy has secured 1113 marks out of 1,200 in Plus two, he said, inaugurating a seminar to create awareness on implementing laws to abolish child labour in Krishnagiri

The boy had since secured admission for a five year MBA course at the Vellore Institute of Technology free of cost with the help of the administration, he said

Shanmugham said 1,293 students have been admitted in 36 special schools in the district this academic year.

He said Rs 4 lakh has been collected as fine from 40 industrial units for engaging child labour in the past one year. Thirty child labourers rescued from various organizations had been to Special Schools in the last academic year, the Collector added.

Later, he awarded certificates and shields to presidents of Theertham, Berigai, Achupalu and Periyamuthur panchayats for abolishing child labour in their areas.
