Varsity for starting more medical college hospitals

Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University will soon recommend to the State government to start more medical college hospitals in various districts, Mayil Vahanan Natarajan, Vice-Chancellor, said here on Sunday.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the Tamil Nadu Cancer Surgeons Association and the CME programme on “Current Concepts of Surgical Oncology.”

He emphasised the need for all medical colleges to have an oncology department to train doctors in surgeries.

S. Sadasivam, founder president of the association, said there were around 8.5 lakh cancer patients in the country and nearly 5 lakh people were dying. He added that the death rate could be controlled with more professionally trained doctors in surgical oncology.
