Updated on: Thursday, November 24, 2011

A national seminar on 'Modernisation of Libraries' will be held by the Vidya Prasarak Mandal here on the coming Friday.

Dr Vijay V Bedekar, chairman of the institute, said more than 300 delegates from across the country will attend this technical conference in India.

"Computerisation and ever-increasing emphasis on knowledge-based thinking have crept into all walks of life, such as banks, hospitals, hotels, travel and tourism, commerce etc. Libraries were one of the earliest to join this trend.

In India today many of even small college and university libraries are computerised and networked," Dr Shakuntala Singh, convenor of the seminar said. "Web resources and net-based information services are integral parts of library culture. If not now, in next few years, even electricity supply situation will improve. Then computerisation and networking will reach 100 per cent implementation.

This UGC-sponsored national seminar will be held at Thorale Bajirao hall here.
