MCD for regulation of play schools

Updated on: Friday, November 18, 2011

In a bid to check mushrooming of play schools in the capital, MCD urged Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to issue guidelines for their functioning and get them registered.

In a letter, MCD Education Committee chairman Mahinder Nagpal claimed that play schools run in the city are not answerable to any government organisation or institution.

He said as per the DMC Act, the MCD imparts only nursery and primary education, while the middle level education is with the Delhi Government.

However, these play schools neither come under the DMC Act nor the Delhi Government. This necessitates the need for making these play schools responsible to a government organisation or institution, he said.

"There is no clarification regarding the role of the MCD towards play schools. Many of these play schools even approach the civic bodys Education Department for recognition, but the department fails to provide a satisfactory answer," he said.

Nagpal said some government standards in this regard be fixed.

"These play schools collect fees and provide facilities according to their whims and fancies, which is neither in the interest of the students nor the society at large. I requested the Chief Minister to issue a guideline, which necessitates for making recognition mandatory for play schools," he said.
