Aimed at promoting awareness in astronomy and science education, Hyderabad-based B M Birla Science Centre announced setting up of the 'G P Birla Observatory and Astronomical Research Centre' equipped with state-of-the-art telescope on its campus.

The Observatory and Astronomical Centre, built at a cost of over Rs 20 crore in collaboration with a French agency will be inaugurated on November 17.

Director General of the Centre B G Siddharth told reporters that the astronomical observatory set up in collaboration with France-based NGO 'Uranoscope De France' houses the powerful C-11 telescope, an ultra modern telescope capable of even detecting Exoplanets planets that orbit stars in a solar system other than that of Earth.

The telescope enables sky-gazers to see stars, galaxies and other cosmic objects far beyond the solar system and view celestial activity several 'light years' away.
