The Center for Global Management and Responsible Leadership along with the Ensemble team at XLRI conducted a ‘National Convention for Sharing Case Studies of Responsible Leadership’ at the campus recently.

In order to advance responsible leadership, the centre felt a need to draw lessons from different walks of life about responsible leadership practices.    It is this conviction which prompted the centre to have a presentation of case studies ideated by XLRI.

About 42 cases have been slotted for presentation during the convention, which represent a broad spectrum, including leadership lessons from people in government, armed forces, corporate, hospitals, educational institutions, industry, social sector, retail and renewable energy.

The cases focus on leadership issues which had influenced an entire continent to a village community and not just case studies of some well known corporate leaders.

Announcing the commencement of the National Convention, E Abraham, director of XLRI said, “Before the centre initiated activities to promote responsible leadership, it felt a need to outline lessons from different
walks of life about responsible leadership practices. That was when we floated the idea of presentation of case studies on responsible
leadership, and the response has been most encouraging.”

The participants range from the corporate, education and social sectors in India, to others from seven countries representing five continents. The insights drawn from the deliberations of the convention will be used to develop training modules for the executives. The first such programme is
proposed in Dubai during March 2012.

While delivering lecture on Reclaiming ‘Authority’ in an age of ‘Transparency’ Biswatosh Saha, professor, IIM Calcutta, said, “Without authority, in fact, there can be no strategic world. To appreciate the implications and significance of transparency as a practice, one needs to carefully understand how it works on and is worked by the architecture of authority and power.”

Sustainable leadership also has to deal with the issue of climate change and carbon footprint. One of XLRI’s vision & mission statements is to create responsible business leaders with a social consciousness. XLRI is also a signatory to UN Global Compact’s Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRiME).
