School-going children in Tamil Nadu, covered under the noon-meal programme, could soon enjoy mango milk shake, if a proposal by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in this regard takes effect.

"To help horticulture farmers of Krishnagiri (state-run), Aavin (Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation Ltd) will examine purchasing of excess mangoes and processing them as mango milk shake for supply to noon-meal centres," Jayalalithaa said.

She made the announcement at the concluding session of the Collectors' Conference here.

The state's Nutritious Meal Programme is devised with the double objective of preventing school dropouts and at the same time, address the issue of child malnutrition.
