Private SRM University here said it had no plans to open an offshore campus in Sri Lanka.

The university had only launched its international admissions for the next academic year in Colombo recently along with an information centre to encourage students from the island especially of Tamil origin to take up higher studies, its Vice-Chanceller M Ponnavaikko said in a release.

The centre was aimed at providing detailed information about various programmes offered by the university, with a local counsellor sourcing students, he said.

Sri Lankan Industries Minister Rishath Bathiyutheen, who addressed the function, invited SRM University to set up a campus in his country as it would help a large number of Tamil students to have higher education at an affordable cost and offered all assistance from his government.
