BrahMos Aerospace opens centre of excellence in Bangalore

Indo-Russian joint venture company BrahMos Aerospace opened a centre of excellence for developing hypersonic aerodynamic vehicles and engines at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore.

The centre set up in honour of former President and distinguished scientist A P J Abdul Kalam, BrahMos had signed an MoU with IISc in June this year to establish the centre.
 
"The new Centre of Excellence at IISc will pave the way for young and bright scientists from all over India to undertake research and development in the field of high speed aerodynamics," BrahMos Aerospace Chief A S Pillai said after the centre was inuagurated by Kalam himself.
 
"This will lead to the development of the advanced BrahMos-II missile system and reusable hypersonic vehicles for space missions," he added.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Kalam said, "The centre will bring together the strength of BrahMos and IISc with the mission to promote development of world class systems and technology, which is a significant step towards national development."
