MU launches five-year integrated MA

The University of Madras has launched a five-year integrated MA (Modern Development Administration) programme, offered through Anna Centre for public affairs, was formally launched by vice chancellor Prof S.Ramachandran

The vice chancellor said the integrated programme was designed to cater to the demands of the student community as well as the need to prepare students to meet the demands of tomorrow’s complex world.
He told mediapersons that the course would prepare the students for civil services and even if the candidate clears third year, they could appear for civil services examinations. The course with lateral exit provides certificate at every stage

If a student is unable to complete his/her second year he/she would get a certificate and for those who could not enter the third year a diploma would be awarded.
Those who clear all papers in third year would be awarded a degree certificate and those completing the fourth year would receive a post diploma certificate in addition to a degree certificate, he added. The programme with four disciplines, namely post-modern public administration, life sciences, anthropology and French were offered under choicebased credit system

Around 20 students were selected and formally admitted to each of the four disciplines. The vice chancellor said the programme could be introduced in affiliated colleges and in future for Tamil medium students
