Pudukkottai: A Panchayat School in Pudukkottai District of Tamil Nadu, had bagged 'Best School Award for academic year 2007-08 from the Directorate of Elementary Education, Chennai.
Official sources said the school at Mangudi, stands out in several aspects, as every classroom is provided with television set each, drinking water pipe connection, a water-drum and an intra-school post-box.
The other salient features, includes a full-fledged library with over 800 books, an open-air reading hall, vocational training for students of Standards VI, VII and VIII, tailoring for girls and book-binding for boys. The school has prescribed a uniform for all the 238 students, including 115 girls. Identity cards were being issued to the students.
The award was given in recognition of the school's outstanding performance in imparting education with maximum utilisation of computers, LCD projectors and Internet, the sources added.
Discipline, environmental awareness and cleanliness are the watchword of the school. 'We have planted hundreds of saplings on the campus of the school to sensitise the students about the importance of ecological protection,' school authorities said.
