A day after TOI reported about eight students who despite scoring above 80% in their Std-X board exams were dropped out of the online admission process owing to a technical snag, the deputy director of education office on Thursday plans to issue a show cause notice to the junior college that was supposed to put their names on its list.
“This is an error on the part of the junior college,” said a senior deputy director of education (school) official. The official assured the students that the department would help them get admission to a proper college. “Wherever there is a vacancy, they will get seats, based on their merit,” he said. The institute, Bharda New High School and Junior College of Science and Commerce, however, claimed that it was not at fault. The college’s officials maintained that they followed the order that was uploaded on the admission website on July 27; it clearly stated that the deadline for junior colleges to update their admission lists had been extended from 5 pm on July 27 to 10 am on July 28, the officials said. “That’s why we even accepted the eight students’ forms on July 27 as we planned to update their names the next day. But the link did not work the next day,” said principal of the college Vinita Lewis, adding that the officials contacted the local education officer about the technical glitch but he reportedly did not help. Even as the authorities try to pin the blame on each other, the fate of the eight students hangs in the balance. “The deputy director’s office has asked me to come tomorrow. Hopefully they’ll help me secure a seat in a good college,” said Amit Shah, who scored 85.64% in the board exams.
