The Medical Council of India is delaying permission for admission for the second batch of students at self financing DD Medical College and Hospital, despite MCI Chairman recommending grant of permission.
Details obtained through Right to Information (RTI) Act revealed that Dr S K Sarian, Chairman MCI, in his file note, dated April 3, 2011 had stated that "renewal of permission for admission of second batch for the academic year 2011-12 may be
granted", but MCI was yet to give permission.
According to details provided by the Union government under RTI Act, the Chairman had granted the permission based on the assessment report placed before the Board of Governors, recommending that the DD Medical College and Hospital be permitted to admit 250 second batch of students for MBBS course for the year 2011-12.
The team of assessors, comprising Col S Kapoor, Dr S C Kahapatra and Dr B L Sherwal made a surprise visit to the DD Medical College and Hospital on March 15 and 16 and certified that the Insitution fulfilled MCI norms with reference to
infrastructure and academic strength. They had certified that the facilities were adequate to admit 250 students for the year 2011-12.
Sources said MCI was also delaying issue of grant of permission to 23 other private Medical colleges.
