Phase I of CPMT counselling concludes

The first round of Combined Pre-Medical Test (CPMT) counselling concluded at Ganesh Shanker Vidyarthi Medical College here on Wednesday. Classes for the new students will commence from August 1. It is worth mentioning here that all the seats of MBBS and BDMS got filled in the first phase of counselling which had begun on July 14.

"The students need to report between July 21 and 25 to the college authorities and go through a scheduled medical check-up. The last joining date for students who have received their allotment letters is July 25 and the classes will begin from August 1 for the next academic session," said R P Sharma, counselling secretary at GSVM Medical College.

He further said that all seats of MBBS and BDMS are full now and that too in all categories including general and SC/ST.

The seats of bachelor of unani medicine and surgery (BUMS) are still lying vacant, but as there are only 80 seats available in this course, it is expected that all would be filled soon.

Thousands of students had registered themselves for the counselling but only 950 students got their seats locked at the end of the first phase of counselling.

Meanwhile, on the last day of counselling, the seats of private colleges that run bachelor of dental studies and bachelor of homeopathy medicine and surgery programmes were locked by the students.

"Those students who wanted to take admissions in private colleges locked their seats on the last day of the counselling session that is on Wednesday, whereas there were many others who withdrew themselves from the counselling as they did not get the chance to secure admission in government colleges," added Sharma.

Nearly 260 students withdrew themselves from the first phase of counselling and if the authorities are to believed, this number might increase in the days to come.

While explaining the reason of withdrawal of candidates from the CPMT counselling, I Jain, the coordinator of CPMT counselling, said, "The seats in the government colleges got filled during the first counselling session. The seats for dental science in the private colleges were left vacant. Due to high fee in the private colleges for this course, some students withdrew themselves as only those students opt for this branch who can afford to bear the expenses during their studies."

Now after the conclusion of phase I of counselling session, the results for the seats locked by the candidates during the counselling session would be announced on Friday. Also the candidates would be provided with the allotment letters.

The authorities also said that the next round of the counselling session will start from August 25.
