As the IITs closed their gates for the upcoming academic year, it was clear that holding multiple rounds of admission reduced the number of vacant seats.
If all the students who were allotted a seat in the third or the last round to join the programme, the tech schools will have a very small number of vacant seats: 15.
These unfilled seats, which are in the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category, will be transferred to the preparatory course, the annual bridge programme that speeds up backward category students who are taken in at a relaxed score.
Information from the IITKanpur states that of 9,319 candidates who were initially eligible for counselling, 8,674 paid the fees. So, 645 seats were up for grabs for the second round. After the first round, 618 new candidates became eligible for admission. Of them, 339 paid the registration fee. In all, 9,013 candidates confirmed their admission and 291 new candidates were given a seat in the third round.
