Most number of SC/ST students, applied for law courses, who are not interested in engineering studies.
Totally 42.14 percentage of students belonging SC/ST category have been applied for law studies while only 12.52 percentage of SC/ST category students opted engineering courses. On the whole, the enrollment of SC/ST students in both streams is not much satisfactory.
In the current academic year, 2,686 students have been applied to get seat in 6 government law colleges of Tamilnadu. While comparing with SC category students, ST category students has shown less interest in higher studies.
Among 1,37,622 students who applied for engineering counselling, 17,928 of them are SC category students and 481 are ST category students. Generally, the students belonging to BC and MBC catogory are dominant in engineering studies while SC/ST students are lagging behind as they are economically weak. Though they get opportunity even in government college, they need to spend atleast 30,000 per year.
But comparitively, law courses are less expensive, so SC/ST students turn towards law colleges. It is to be noted that the fee for law counselling is rs.1620(it is one time payable) and yearly expense can be around rs.1205(for all category students).
