The Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates have just one last chance left to seek admission in the prestigious Delhi University (DU). Ujjaini Ray, a media coordinator from Lady Sri Ram (LSR) College said that the fifth cut-off list is the last chance for OBC candidates to seek admission in DU. Once admissions get closed, the university will provide them with a list of students belonging to other categories such as the Kashmiri migrants quota, physically handicapped and war widows quota.
In colleges such as Hindu College, Kamla Nehru, LSR, and Hansraj cut-offs for students belonging to the OBC category have dropped by a sharp 10% in the fourth list.
Ray further added that the idea is to encourage as many OBC students to take admission, as possible. The colleges, however, maintain that even though the response from OBC candidates has seen an improvement this year, as against the previous academic year with more students seeking admission across various courses, it is still sluggish. These colleges are therefore, getting ready to close admission for these students in some of the courses.
Anju Srivastava, media coordinator, Hindu College, said, "Even though chemistry and physical sciences are likely to get filled up, we are still waiting for a more enthusiastic response from the OBC students. We will wait till July 13 to see how many students actually come in and then we will close admissions for OBC category. General category students will then fill the vacant seats after we have gone through the list supplied by DU."
