Second chance

Updated on: Monday, July 04, 2011

Here is a second opportunity for all those Delhi University aspirants (SC/ST category) who didn't manage to get their choice of course despite a good score. In order to ensure that students get a seat that they deserve, the university will be offering a fiveday face-to-face counselling session in July. Once the sessions are over, students who have got an admission through the counselling sessions will have to submit their fee on July 14.

The first session for ST aspirants will begin on July 5. The second session, on July 6, will be held for SC candidates who have an aggregate of 70% or more. The third session will be held on July 7 for SC students with an aggregate between 65% and 70% and those with an aggregate between 60% and 65% will be counseled on July 8. Finally, the counselling session for the differentlyabled students will be conducted on July 9.

JM Khurana, dean, students' welfare, Delhi University, says, "It has been observed that many deserving students, due to incomplete information regarding admissions and other reasons are unable to get a seat. All such students are called for a faceto-face counselling where queries are heard and they are then adviced a course and college that best suits them and their interest in keeping with their merit."

Many a time, results of some other boards are not declared, but admissions at DU begin. In such a scenario, students are often the victims. But during counselling, they are informed about the seats that are still vacant for courses.

According to Khurana, around 4,000 students are expected to attend the counselling sessions. He adds, "We are hoping to provide admission to each and every student. Since compared to SC candidates, ST candidates are lesser in numbers only one counselling session is allotted for them. If any seats remain after the first day of counselling, we will convert them into seats for SC students."

The counselling sessions will have a huge display board where colleges available at particular percentages will be shown. Deans of DU will be present who will guide the students about the number of seats available.
