Students rush for college forms

Updated on: Friday, July 01, 2011

Over 30,000 admissions forms have been sold for undergraduate and postgraduate courses till Thursday, but thousands more are queuing up to get them as only three days are left for the deadline for their submission on July 4. This, despite the fact that there are only 9,000 seats in all eight colleges in first, second and third year of undergraduate courses (barring BCom). For post graduate courses there are 1,500 seats in first and second year.

The concerted rush to get forms and prospectuses has forced some colleges to order for a fresh stock with the number of prospective students already having crossed manifold from that of last year. As of now an additional 7,500 prospectuses have been ordered by city colleges looking to the long queues of anxious students, with parents in tow.

The admission process in city colleges will begin on July 11.

Principal of Government College for Women, Gurminder Kaur, said that going by last year's numbers they had ordered 7,000 prospectus but seeing the rush they ordered for an additional 2500, but it is not proving to be enough and only a few of the extra lot remain.

The main worry for SCD Government College principal Jasbir Kaur Makkar is that the forms should not fall short. There has already been an increase in sale of forms this year and as of now 95 per cent of these have been submitted. The college has sold an additional 2,000 forms so far this year.

Arya College principal T L Joshi said that last year they had sold 2,500 and this year till now more then 2,900 forms have been sold with the figure likely to cross 3,000.
