Despite a three-member assessment team of Medical Council of Inida (MCI) giving a favourable report for renewing recognition for the second batch of MBBS and giving Letter of Permission to increase intake from 150 to 250 seats for the academic year 2011-12 for a self-financing medical college near here, MCI is yet to clear it.

The assessment team, led by Col S Kapoor, Professor, Department of surgery-clinic, Command Hospital, Lucknow comprising Dr S C Mahapatra of All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr B I Sherwal of Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi, had inspected DD Medical College and DD Hospital on March 15 and 16.

The team found the institution had fulfilled MCI norms with regard to staff strength, teaching faculty and other infrastructure and recommended renewal of recognition for the second batch of MBBS and giving LOP to increase admission to 250 students for 2011-12 academic year. But the MCI secretary was yet to clear it.

It was intriguing why MCI has not yet cleared the proposal, T D Naidu, college chairman said.
