Stephen's gets more time for Christian quota reply

Updated on: Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Delhi high court on Monday deferred the hearing on the plea of a student who had alleged St Stephen's College did not admit him despite being eligible under the Christian quota.

The high court, which had issued a notice to Delhi University and St Stephen's, deferred the matter till July 5 following the non-submission of reply by the respondents.

The petition was filed by Nikhil Neil Das who had secured 89% in Class XII but was not allowed to appear in an admission interview under the Christian quota for BA (H) economics. His counsel alleged the college illegally and unconstitutionally set criteria of admission to benefit candidates having membership in the Church of North India (CNI). Das is not a member of CNI.
