College admission rush starts

Updated on: Tuesday, June 28, 2011

With Class X board results out, admission in plus-II colleges across the state began from Monday. This year the state government has made e-admission mandatory for all 1,282 colleges across the state.

"The process is quite simple. Students will file their applications online by June 9 and later they would submit a hard copy in any of the 377 SAMS resources centres," said principal of BJB Junior College, S N Mohanty.

Each student can apply in six colleges in one form and they have to take admission as per the first selection list. Students can change to the college of their choice later. "Those who won't take admission as per the first selection list will not be given a second chance for admission," Mohanty said.

A student has to pay Rs 25 for downloading the application form, while for first choice of college a student has to pay Rs 100 and Rs 50 for every subsequent choice. The last date of filling online forms is July 9, while last of submitting the hard copy is July 11, official sources said. The first selection list will be declared on July 22 and admission for the same will be held on July 29. Second selection list will be announced on August 7, while admission for rest of the seats will be conducted on August 20 and 23. Classes in all colleges will begin on August 25.

Although worried about admission list, students are excited about going to college. "The tension is not just about getting into a college. It is about getting into the right college. But I am looking forward to going to college very much," said Anirudha Das, who applied in BJB Junior College. "Everyone tells me college is great fun though I'm also worried about my admission," said Anita Mohapatra, another student.
