Ten days after the state education board announced the SSC results online, students will finally receive their original marksheets today, starting the junior college admissions. Like last year, admission to the minority, in-house and management quotas will be done offline before the first merit list for junior colleges are announced online. Altogether close to 1.10 lakh seats will be filled through offline admissions this year, leaving 1.54 lakh seats for online admissions. Besides, this year many colleges have added extra seats to the bifocal (vocational) subjects.
“Students can apply to colleges immediately after they get their marksheets. Colleges have until July 7 to admit students under various quotas, after which the merit lists for the online admission process will be announced,” said a senior official from the office of deputy director of education. He added by 11:00 am on July 8 colleges will have to surrender their vacant seats for online admissions. July 7 is the last day for students to submit their online admissions forms.
Most colleges are already giving application forms and will accept the filled ones from tomorrow. Marie Fernandes, principal of St Andrew’s College in Bandra said colleges usually announce more than one list offline. “Students apply to various colleges so they don’t confirm their admission immediately. So we have to announce more than one list,” said Fernandes.
Third list for degree colleges
The third merit list for degree college admissions will be out by today evening. Students will have to confirm the admission and pay the fees by June 29. While the first cut-off lists for self-finance courses in the top rung city colleges were high, it did not go down in the subsequent lists. Principals from degree colleges feel the cut-offs will not change much in the third list too as most of the students have confirmed their admissions.
