The Minister termed as "unacceptable" the high cut-off for admission to programmes under Delhi University which reached 100 per cent this season, and said he would engage in dialogue with the university and other institutions to evolve a "more rationale system" for admission.
At the same time, Sibal said he was also "worried" over seats under OBC quota not being filled up "because of the high cut-off". "My great worry is we have a 27 per cent quota which is not being filled and its not being filled because of the cut-off.
In other universities it is being filled because there is a examination. If you have the cut-off based on competitive marks, the cut-off won't be filled. Thats very worrying and I intend to deal with this issue upfront," he said.
The Ministry had recently asked Delhi University to implement the 27 per cent reservation for OBC students in "letter and spirit" and had instructed the varsity to submit an action taken report amid reports that the quota was not being filled up.
