The National Students Union of India called off its four-day long fast protest on 25th, after Maharaja Sayajirao university agreed to lower the criteria for
admission to the first year commerce department here.
The activists of the NSUI, frontal organisation of the Indian National Congress, were on fast demanding that the students passing 12th standard examination, scoring 40 percent of marks, be admitted to the commerce department of the university.
The university had fixed 45 percent as the criteria for the B.Com course. Dr U M Joshi, in-charge Vice Chancellor of the university, said, "New pisions will be created in the (commerce) faculty for admitting students getting 40 % marks .
In addition to this, the strength in each pision of the faculty will be raised to 110 from existing 100 seats"
