The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has released the much-awaited schedule for admission to health sciences courses in Maharashtra, thus providing big relief for the thousands of aspirants who were eagerly waiting for it. The sale of information brochure containing application forms will start on July 4 at four regional centres - Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad and Nagpur. The first list of admitted candidates will be out on July 18 while second on August 25. The list for vacant or dropout seats would be released on September 9.
The cut-off date for admission to all health science courses will be September 30. Candidates can obtain information brochure free of cost after showing their original MHT-CET-2011 mark-sheets from the divisional authority of their respective districts, DMER sources told TOI.
Over 7,000 seats in medical ( MBBS), dental (BDS), ayurveda (BAMS), Unani, homeopathy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and nursing are up for grabs in about 58 government and aided institutions along with municipal corporation colleges. Government Medical College (GMC), Nagpur will be catering to students from Nagpur, Akola, Washim, Yavatmal, Amravati, Wardha, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara and Gondia districts.
Even as the number of eligible candidates for health sciences witnessed a drop of 2.47%, the competition to get a medical seat will be tough. This year, 1.92 lakh appeared for the exam with a view to join medical courses, of which, only 23,147 passed which stands at 12.76%. Out of 41,511 candidates from Vidarbha, 5,215 managed to clear the exam.
